OUR SCHOOL

Montfort School, Chabua, established in April 1986, is a Catholic Minority Institution, affiliated with the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA). It is administered by the Institute of Brothers of St. Gabriel Society, Province of Northeast India (Registered under Act XXI of 1860), popularly known as Montfort Brothers.

Montfortian Education is a journey of self-discovery where students discover their talents, clarify their values and form their moral compass.

At Montfort, we create an ethos that cares and challenges every Montfortian to become learners and leaders who demonstrate fortitude, proficiency, honesty, respect and charity.

The motto and emblem of the School

‘Lead Kindly Light’ expresses the aspirations and eagerness of a learning community’s whole-hearted dependence on God to lead them from the darkness of ignorance and narrow-mindedness. God is the true light that dispels all the darkness; especially the darkness of ignorance from the hearts and minds of people.

In the emblem, the Gamosa and the Horai stand for the rich cultural heritage of Assam. The Cross reminds us of the sacrifice of Jesus, and invites us to bear our daily crosses cheerfully. The book signifies our quest for knowledge. The letters D & S are abbreviations of the French words ‘DIEU SEUL’, meaning ‘GOD ALONE’. It is the motto of St. Montfort.

  • To awaken in the children the inborn respect for all forms of life and passionate love for learning.
School Values

The importance of school values shouldn’t be underestimated. They help pupils to understand right from wrong and shape their mindsets and behaviour. Mindful of our responsibility to support the character development of their pupils we lay great emphasis on the following core values:

Compassion

Showing COMPASSION is to do what is required to help those who are in need. To this end we will:

  • be aware of those that need our help,
  • give our best to help those in need, regardless of race, language or religion,
  • seek to help others to help themselves.
Humility

To be HUMBLE is to acknowledge that our achievements result from the contribution and support of others. To this end we will:

  • give credit to those who have made us successful,
  • obey instructions from authority with a positive attitude,
  • to have the resilience to keep trying and not give up,
  • to strive to improve ourselves.
Respect

To show someone RESPECT is to accept and value the person for who they are. To this end we will:

  • accept and value others for who they are,
  • be considerate of the feelings of others and be able to put ourselves in the shoes of others,
  • be gracious, display good manners and use appropriate language,
  • show that we care.
Integrity

To have INTEGRITY is to act in a way that is honest and sincere. It is also to have ideals and values and use them to guide our actions in a consistent manner. To this end we will:

  • have the moral courage to stand up for what is right and to speak the truth,
  • admit when we are wrong.
Sense of Responsibility

To have a SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY is to know and do what is expected of us. To this end we will:

  • accept accountability for what we undertake to do,
  • fulfil our duty by doing to the best of our ability,
  • to do what is right and to right what is wrong.
Trust

To have TRUST is to believe in the honesty and reliability of self and others. To have TRUST is also to always put our trust in God. To this end we will:

  • keep to our word and be true to our group or team by fulfilling our commitments,
  • have a healthy sense of self-worth by believing in the ability and goodness of God, self and others.
SPIRITUAL, MORAL, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ETHOS AND VALUES

Every class begins with a brief meditation. School Assemblies are held every week throughout the school year. These assemblies such assemblies provide opportunities to come together as a whole school and get involved in activities and spiritual experiences that stimulate their responses and challenge them to respond to events, situations and to what happens in their neighbourhood/community/society in which they live; besides helping the students showcase their talents before the whole school.

The spiritual, moral, social and cultural ethos promoted in the school enables children to be open and develop a positive self-image. We foster an attitude of open enquiry and create awareness of unhealthy prejudices. Children are encouraged to have a loving and caring attitude towards others and to have respect and tolerance towards different beliefs, customs and cultures. They are encouraged to form values such as respect, fairness, forgiveness, and collaboration. Thus, we hope to contribute to the formation of a harmonious society based on mutual respect and concern.
